The short version
You do not have to switch everything at once. Replace each item with the plastic-free version when it runs out. Start with the big levers: bar soap and solid shampoo replace most of the bottles, the rest follows step by step.
The bathroom is the room with the most single-use bottles in the house: shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, soap, cleaner. That makes it the most rewarding place to begin. Every bottle you replace for good saves a real amount of material over the years.
The trick is to make it easy on yourself. Do not throw everything out, just replace each item once it is used up. That way the switch never hurts and it sticks.
Seven steps, one at a time
Bar soap
Swap the liquid soap in the dispenser for a good bar, for example a mild Aleppo soap. The easiest first step.
Solid shower bar
Like soap, but tuned mild for showering. Economical and travel-friendly, with no plastic bottle.
Safety razor
Instead of disposable razors, a classic safety razor with replaceable blades. Lasts a lifetime, plus a nourishing shaving soap.
Dental care
Toothpaste tablets and a bamboo brush save the tube and the plastic. Light and travel-friendly.
Natural deodorant
Deodorant cream or stick in glass or paper instead of a plastic roller. Look for aluminium-free formulas.
Refill instead of single-use
Whatever stays liquid, refill at an unpackaged shop or with a refill pack instead of buying new each time.

Why the switch is worth it
- Less packaging waste, and often less microplastic in the waste water.
- Solid products are economical and therefore often cheaper over time.
- Small and light, perfect for travel with no risk of leaks.
- Usually shorter, clearer ingredient lists than many liquid products.
Start gently with a set
If you want to begin all at once, a small starter set is the easiest way. What to look for:
- Bar soap and solid shampoo as the base
- Accessories like a soap dish or sisal pouch so everything dries well
- Naturally pure products with a short ingredient list
