The short version
Baking soda or washing soda as a paste with a little water onto the crust, let it act, brush off. Vinegar dissolves fat and deposits. On stainless steel stay mild and rinse, on cast iron do not let water stand.
The grill rarely needs special cleaners. Baking soda, washing soda and vinegar are cheap, work reliably against fat and burnt-on residue and are quickly to hand in the garden. The only thing that matters is choosing the right remedy for the material.
Clean the grill with home remedies
Brush off roughly
Remove loose ash and residue with the brush so the remedies reach the crust directly.
Apply baking soda paste
Mix baking soda or washing soda with a little water into a paste, put it on the burnt-on spots and let it act.
Activate with vinegar
A little vinegar on top, it foams up slightly and additionally dissolves fat and deposits.
Let it act & scrub
Let it work for half an hour to an hour, then scrub off with a brush or sponge.
Rinse & dry
Rinse thoroughly with water and dry. Polish stainless steel, dry cast iron immediately and oil it.
Mind the material
Washing soda and vinegar are strong, use them sparingly on delicate surfaces and rinse. Aluminium reacts with baking soda and soda and can darken. Cast iron does not tolerate a long water bath.
