The short version
Always wipe in the direction of the grain, soft cloths instead of scouring agents, a stainless steel cleaner against heat tint. Fingerprints come off with a little dish soap, a thin layer of stainless steel care protects against new ones.
Stainless steel on the grill looks classy but shows every fingerprint and reacts sensitively to scratches and the wrong cleaners. With the right technique the surface stays shiny, without streaks or scoring.
Caring for stainless steel right
Let it cool
Only clean stainless steel cold, on hot surfaces cleaners dry on instantly and leave stains.
Wipe with the grain
Always wipe in the direction of the fine grain lines, never across, that avoids visible scratches.
Dissolve fat & fingerprints
Clean with warm water and a little dish soap, that gently dissolves fat and fingerprints.
Treat heat tint
Remove bluish heat tint with a stainless steel cleaner, do not use scouring powder.
Care & protect
Finally apply a thin layer of stainless steel care and polish, that protects against new fingerprints.
No scouring, no steel wool
Scouring powder and steel wool scratch stainless steel permanently and can cause rust film. Soft cloths and sponges are enough. Inside the firebox you can be rougher, outside always gentle.
